Friends of Blacks Run Greenway: Restoring an Urban Stream to Connect a Virginia Community
Canaan Valley Institute worked with a local watershed group in Harrisonburg to restore a local stream.
Most Creative Scenic Improvement
The Friends of the Rockfish Watershed and the Lynchburg VDOT District received this award from Scenic Virginia for the two-mile restoration of the South Fork of the Rockfish River in Nelson County that enhances the beauty of the Rockfish Valley as seen from several Virginia Byways, and that has made the river a candidate for Virginia’s Scenic River designation.
Also, Rural Nelson (ruralnelson.org) and FORWatershed (forwatershed.org) are both featured in a video produced by the Va. Department of Conservation and Recreation entitled "Catching the Watershed Wave, A Case Study on Small Watershed Planning in Two Virginia Communities." You may be interested in contacting Gary Waugh, Public Relations Manager, for information on how to receive a DVD copy of this video.
