Revive Community Challenge – Projects needed by April 6
Environmental Fair and Revive Community Challenge - Chesterfield County is combining their annual environmental fair with John Tyler Community College's "Fool for Art" into an exciting event blending arts and sciences in honor of "Earth Day." Individuals and groups are invited to submit items for a silent auction that are at least 75% recycled, renewed, reused or repurposed materials. Earth Day Celebration at Douthat State Park – Volunteers needed on April 24
Citizens are invited to attend the Earth Day Celebration at Douthat State Park. Beth Hawse, Chief Ranger of Interpretation and Education is also looking for presenters from various volunteer organizations, conservation agencies and private businesses throughout the state. Is your organization having a litter clean-up or Earth Day event in April?CVWMA is compiling a list of all clean-up events and Earth Day activities that are taking place in central Virginia. We will list this information on our website, issue press releases to local media and include a list of events in our newsletter.

- Earth Day Network’s Educator’s Network offers tools for integrating environmental issues into core curriculum subjects and provides games and activities for students. The network’s educational resources and the Civic Education Page connect the subject matter to real issues that affect students’ communities. Teachers of all grades and subjects can register for the Educator’s Network at no charge and access all materials, including Environmental Jeopardy, a game and one-day lesson plan.
- The American Chemical Society’s Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (CCED) showcases chemistry’s contributions to sustaining a healthy planet and environment. Get details on a poetry contest in which K–12 students write and illustrate a haiku using the CCED 2006 theme, “Dig It!” A contest for undergraduate students asks them to create a video that incorporates an activity relevant to the theme. Teachers also will find hands-on activities, safety guidelines, correlation with science education standards, related articles, book and electronic resource lists, and a web-based interactive game in which students help Avogadro and Meg A. Mole find the best place to plant flower seeds. The society’s Journal of Chemical Educationhas dedicated its February 2006 issue to green chemistry, environmental chemistry, and the celebration of Earth Day.
- Kids Domain features Earth Day games for children at and activities and information.
- The Earth Day Groceries Project website describes an environmental awareness project in which students decorate paper grocery bags with environmental messages for Earth Day.
- Earth Day on Your Block tells how to hold an Earth Day Block Party featuring a parade of endangered species, displays about environmental issues, demonstrations of energy saving and composting, guest speakers, planting and gardening activities, and outdoor cleanups.
- The Wilderness Society’s Teacher’s Lounge provides K–12 curriculum and activities.
