Description
The S.E.A.L. Project Venture Crew 102 is an out of school time (OST) environmental education and BSA chartered “Venturing - http://www.scouting.org/venturing/” initiative of RISKids.org. The 5 goals of S.E.A.L. are to contact, connect, follow-up, grow, and impact youth ages 14 to 21 through 1.) Life changing Social, Environmental, Aquatic and Leadership experiences; 2.) Pro-Social “RISKLESS” values and decision-making skills; 3.) Positive "free choice" learning and employment experiences; 4.) Healthy connections to families, friends, and communities; and, 5. Long-term spiritual, emotional, cognitive and/or physical capacity building of youth and adults so that all are encouraged to become good stewards, survivors and supporters of the earth's eco-system - not only for our collective well-being but for the very future of our planet.S.E.A.L. Project Eco-Educational Objectives:
To research ways to improve our natural environment in general and the community in particular;
To demonstrate knowledge of ethical, cultural, and societal issues related to an understanding of what the Stewardship and Community Engagement Commitment of the Chesapeake 2000 agreement means and their (youth’s) role in it;
To enhance our mental and physical skills, support collaboration, and improve productivity through participation in eco-service projects in nearby communities in general and within our local communities in particular;
To locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources and resources in order to become actively, physically and spiritually involved with nature in general and through ecology and conservation in particular;
To utilize environmental education resources, science and math for solving problems and making informed decisions through exploration of ways to protect and preserve wildlife in general and the environmental ecologies where they live;
To use a variety of media and technology formats to effectively train multiple audiences and to communicate ideas through development of publishable articles, art work, music, video, online training, etc.
